Title:
From: Kathy Watman 28 May 2008
I wad diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2007. I went for three chemo sessions and then got Hepatitis A. I had a lumpsectomy today last year and I'm in remission. I feel that positive thinking had a lot to do with it. I pray that everybody can be healed.

From: Lynne Swanson 28 May 2008
I was diagnowed with breast cancer in Feb 2008 when I had a lmp of 14mm x 14mm removed, thereafter a mastectomy in March 2008 and my first chemo treatment started on @ April 2008, I am now on my 3rd treatment and todate it has been going well. I accepted the fact that I was diagnosed with cancer and I have been positive from the time I have accepted it and also the support given to me by family and friends. My message to all women with any cancer in any degree, be positive and think of other blessings you received and the strength given to us by our
God.
Thanks and strength to other women

Title: Mrs
From: Marie Viljoen 07 May 2008
My mother was diagnosed with canser about 4 years ago and recieved chemotherapy until last year when the doctor changed her chemotherapy to a very expensive chemotherapy. She has to pay R8000.00 for two weeks treatment. Her medical aid, Discovery persist that she has to make a co-payment although I am of the opinion that according to the Medical Act her condition falls under prescribed mininmum benefits. The Act provides that no co-payment is payable for prescribed minimum benefits. Discovery claims now that they are still entitled to classify these medicine and to require co-payment. I do not see any provision in the Act giving them the authority to do that. Can you help?

I am a Regitered Nurse.Recently I have been visiting friends in the terminal stages of cancer that are being cared for at home.I have found that the family caring for their loved one have very little information on how to go about it ie: how to physically help them when they no longer can help themselves.I would like to hear from people to asses the need for caring training for the family and friends. Thank you I can also be contacted on 083 460 6544

From: Helen Pope 14 April 2008
Has anyone been successful in taking on the Medical Aids now that they are treating Herceptin as a Biological Medicine and not including it under oncology medication?

From: Jodi Brown 29 February 2008
I am a 34 year old women who underwent genetic testing in May 2007. The results were positive for BRACA 1. My decision was to have prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction which I underwent on the 5 September 2007. This was the first the mastectomy and part reconstruction. I underwent the second stage reconstruction on the 17 January 2008. My risk before the surgery was 90% of developing breast cancer and my risk is now what the general population is.

My reason for going this route was that I had seen my mother die of breast cancer and I made the decision that if I would do something to ensure that I did not get cancer then I would do it. At least now I know I will be able to see my son and daughter grow up and live a long life.
